Na semana foram lançadas as primeiras fotografias oficiais da Edição Limitada para 2018 da Lamy Safari (ver a nossa notícia sobre a sua disponibilidade para reserva na F ontoplumo). É uma Lamy Safari preta matte - e isto foi o suficiente para gerar discussão entre os coleccionadores de Lamy.

Last week the first official photos of Lamy Safari Special Edition for 2018 were released (see our post about its availability for pre-order on Fontoplumo). It is a matte black Lamy Safari - this was enough to generate a long discussion amongst Lamy collectors.

E porque é que uma cor (ou a sua ausência,já que se trata de preto) é um tema tão controverso?

And why a color (or its absence because it is black) is such a controversial theme?

Em primeiro lugar é uma edição especial, pelo que toda a gente espera algo completamente diferente. Em segundo lugar é uma caneta preta matte, algo que hoje em dia atrai muitos utiizadores e coleccionadores. E, em terceiro lugar, é bastante semelhante à Safari Umbra/Charcoal, actualmente parte da colecção regular da Lamy Safari.

First, it is a special edition, so everyone is expecting something completely different. Second, it is a matte black pen which is something people nowadays like. And third, it is quite similar to the Umbra/Charcoal Safari, already on Lamy Safari's regular collection.

Mas porquê toda esta indignação sobre o preto para uma edição especial?

But why all this indignation about black for a special edition?

Porque é muito semelhante à cor da Umbra/Charcoal. Mas... já foram lançadas muitas cores diferentes para esta caneta e a cada ano e um pouco mas impossível evitar que a cor seja semelhante a uma cor já existente na gama Safari.

Because it is too close to the Umbra/Charcoal color. But... there were already released a lot of different colors for this pen and each year is a little more impossible to avoid the color to be close to some pre-existing color of the Safari range.

Mas se a Umbra/Charcoal não é uma caneta preta, qual é o problema?

But if the Umbra/Charcoal is not a black pen, what is the problem?

Não há dúvidas que não é preta mas sim cinzenta-acastanhada escura (cor de carvão - charcoal - de facto), suficientemente escura para para ser colocada numa colecção de canetas pretas. Os coleccionaroes de Lamy têm vindo a assumir que a Umbra/Charcoal é um tom de preto, mas não é e a nova edição All Black vem mostrá-lo.

It is definitely not black but is a dark brownish grey (charcoal color, in fact) although dark enough to be placed in a black pen collection. Lamy collectors have been assuming the Umbra/Charcoal to be a kind of black but it is not and the new edition All Black shows that.

No fim de contas, foi uma aposta errada por parte da Lamy? Quem irá comprar esta nova caneta All Black?

After all, was this a wrong move from Lamy? Who will buy this new All Black pen?

Achamos que não. Acreditamos que o público alvo vai incluir os coleccionadores da Lamy Safari e também os de canetas pretas. E devido à discussão criada em redor desta cor, acreditamos qeue a Lamy vai vender estas canetas até aos detractores desta cor. Porquê? Porque é barata e as pessoas estarão interessadas em esclarecer as dúvidas acerca da cor e em comprar uma para comprar com a já existente. Acreditamos que poderá mesmo aumentar as vendas da Umbra/Charcoal... Uma movimentação inteligente de marketing. Esperemos um pouco mais para vermos o que acontece...

We don't think so. We believe the target audience will include the Lamy Safari collectors and the black pen collectors. And because of the discussion that was created about this color we believe that Lamy will sell this pens even to the people who are against this color. Why? Because it is cheap and people will be interested in clarifying the doubts about the new color and buy one to compare with the pre-existing one. And we believe this may even increase the sales of the Umbra/Charcoal... A clever marketing move. Let's just wait a little more and see...
